California.
(its a must to take a feet on the beach picture in Cali, I think)
My mom's baby brudder Jeremy got married last weekend! We were all really excited for him,
and REALLY excited about the fact that they live in California and were going through the San Diego Temple. :D I'll take an excuse to go to Cali fosho!
p.s. The temple was having some work done (you know a face lift and what not) so there was scaffolding covering it. It was kind of an unfortunate time for that to happen, but people were making the best of it! One wedding party was taking pictures with hard hats on in front of the temple. Jeremy and Star will be going back later to take pictures after the temple is all beautified again.
So happy for them!
Okay. I had to get the main point of the trip out of the way before I could really zero in on the fantastic widdle details.
REWIND.
The parents and "little girls" (we will ALWAYS call Jamie and Kenna that I think) left to go to summer games the week before, and then just decided to stay in St. George and drive to Cali at the end of the week. Originally Hailey and I would have driven with them, but Hailey had cheer camp when my parents planned to drive. Hailey didn't want to miss Jer's wedding, so the decision was made that Hailey and I would fly to Cali and then drive back with the family later. This allowed Hailey to do her cheer stuff, and I got to work another day before I had to leave.
Hailey had never flown before.
I flew to Texas with my parents when I was 8.
Don't remember a thing about it except that the ground looked like a quilt.
This was going to be interesting.
Chelsea and Jeri Kerns were kind enough to drop us off
and help us figure out all the junk you have to do.
A few things I found out about flying.
1
Don't pause in the security line.
("What's the hold up here? Keep moving people!")
2
Sometimes a big man with a newspaper blocks the itty bitty window on your row
so you are not able to see anything.
3
Hailey has no sense of the personal space of strangers.
She leaned way into newspaper man's space so she could see out of the window.
4
When newly weds on their way to their honeymoon sit in front of you displaying gag-a-licious amounts of PDA you can punish them by periodically changing the channel and or brightness, volume, ect. of their tv with the remote that just happens to be on the arm rest they put in the up position.
5
Sometimes girls have hair that can house small animals or.... pretzels.
The pretzel thing was Hailey. Yeah, I don't know. The things Hailey says sometimes.
6
As a Flight Attendant you get to hand out free food and drinks and get really good at saying
"and what would you like"...pause for order..." and what else would you like"
He said that same thing to EVERYONE.
7
After playing a delightful game of "make this shape into something" on a plane napkin,
it can later become a suitable wedding gift.
8
Quiet planes are a perfect setting for some freestyle whisper rap about
all the previously mentioned people
We made it. Alive.
Probably wouldn't have if it was up to the people on the plane with us.
That night we had the Wedding dinner thing,
the day after was wedding festivities,
and after that we FINALLY made it to the beach!
We spent the majority of the day at the beach or in the swimming school.
We all ended up burnt.
(My burn came from the day before waiting at the temple, the next day I took a sunscreen bath)
That night we went to Old Town
and learned about the Mormon Batallion.
The no-smile in honor of those days
The earlier attempt. (epic fail parents)
My sisters and myself in front of someone that is important
Panning for riches.
It was really a cool place. I learned things about the Mormon Battalion I hadn't known.
They were promised by Brigham Young that if they went and were faithful that they wouldn't have to fight. The prophesy came true. They had hardships, but they never had to fight.
The U.S. army supplied uniforms but for some reason (I forgot) they were unable to get them to the saints, so they took money instead that they were able to send back to help others move West.
They had a flute that was used by George Washington Taggart, one of our ancestors.
I felt the spirit strongly there, and it made me realize how much I want to serve a mission
If it is what I am suppposed to do of course. Guess we'll see.
After that, we wandered the streets of Old Town
where we met a poor little orphan Parrot.
Insta-friends.
After we ate at Subway. Yum.
We are pulling out of the parking lot afterward when we see this guy walk by. He was walking by our vehicle not seeming to notice us. He had scraggly hair and a hoodie that only covered about half of his pop belly. Because all of our doors and windows were shut in the car my mom said out loud, "That guy's shirt is ridiculous!"
Right then, the guy looked over at our car
He put on this almost creepy grin, raised his eyebrows, and nodded in our direction.
Did he hear you mom?
We were so confused about it. How did he hear what she said? it wasn't very loud.
Then, someone else walked by and we realized that he just wasn't all there, and it was just something that he did all the time.
We had a good laugh about it though.
As we were driving away, I realized I wanted a picture of him so I could blog about it
but my mom wouldn't turn around. So blame HER.
WOOT WOOT.
Until next time. I have some more exciting things to blog about.
